Original Country:

Coloria Parrot Finch live only  in northern part of the island Mindanao at Phillippines. They are restricted to the woody slopes of Mount Katanglad up to 1600 m above sea level. They live a secretive life and are always seen in couples or in a family group. In consequence very little is known of their behaviour.
Coloria Parrot Finch is one of the smallest  Parrot Finch with unusually long legs.
They are usually seen at forest edges and clearings in mountain valleys. They appear to roost at night deep into the forest and congragate in flocks near the edges in the evenings.
They are less active than other members of their genus and spend a good deal of time foraging on or near the ground.
The first Colorias arrived on the European Continent as late as 1964. This first importation was not very succesful and by 1980 they were almost extinct.
I 1982 a new import arrived and through earlier experiences and observation of the Birds in their natural habitat success was achieved.

How to take care:

In captivity, the Coloria Parrot Finch is quite active. This is a beautiful species that is deserving of special attention.
They always need water for bathing and greens, because they only frequently visit the cage or aviary floor.
My  Coloria Parrot finch get a good  finch mix, flour wormes and sproud seed as my other Parrot Finches get.

Breeding:

Coloria Parrot Finch can be bred in cages or aviaries without problems, but this bird ís still quite rare. They accept half-open nestboxes in which they construct their nest with cocfibre and grass stems. The nest is usually not lined.
There can have up to 3 clutches pr year with 2-3 eggs, which are incubated for 12-13 days, and at 21-23 days old the yellow-beaked babies will leave the nest. At the age of 6 weeks they are independent.
At 5 months they have full colour and are sexually mature. Of course this is far too early to let them breed. They have to be at least one year old.
