In wild Nature Yellow-Winged Pytilia live in Western Africa from Sierra Leone to the Tchad-lake. they like moisted Woodsavannahs and abandoned Culture areas.

Besides Yellow-Winged Pytilia belong following three types to the Pytilia family:
                                  
1) Red-winged Pytilia
2) Orange-winged Pytilia
3) Melba Finch

Characteristic to all three types : They are notorioused to threw out their young birds from the Nest.

Head browngrey with Hearthred Face-mask, which ends behind the Eyes. Back Brownishgrey. Wings brown with Yellow Featherbrims. Underside Grey . Belly and Sides with wavestripes


Female




Without Red headcolour. Wavestripes from Throat to Tail.

How to take care:




Yellow-Winged Pytilia needs temperatures over 20º . They should be kept in a planted Avairy together with other Birds, since they are peacefully and only defence their Nest-environs under the incubation.
The Food consist of Canaryseed, sprouted Seed, Mesl Worms, Mosquito-Cocoons and Millet

Breeding:




In wild nature Yellow-Winged Pytilia live in pairs under the breedingtime, and outside the incubation in small groups.
They built their Nest either in dense thickets or in halfopen Nest Boxes/ Nest Baskets. The Nesting material is leaves of Grass and Coconut fibres.
Both parties participant in the incubation of the 3 to 4 Eggs. The incubation takes about 12 to 13 days, and when theChicks coming out, must the parents have possibility to feed with eggfood,
Mosquito-Cocoons, Meal Worms, Greenflies, Friut Flies, or fly Maggots. If not this Animalfood is present will the Chicks be thrown out of the Nest. The young Birds must have sprouted Seed from the last days in the Nest to they can take care of themselves circa 18 to 21 days after they have left the Nest.
At beginning shedding the young Birds has to be removed from the Parents since the old Male gets aggressive to the young Males.
